Recent Screen Australia data shows women directed just 32% of Australian feature dramas in 2023/24. By comparison, 46% of films screened at Sydney Film Festival in 2026 were directed by women or non-binary filmmakers.
Sydney Film Festival is committed to using its platform to build a more equitable and representative screen industry. The Women’s Giving Collective is a group of donors passionate about this area. Their support empowers Sydney Film Festival’s gender equity work across four pillars to:

Recognising creative excellence and leadership across the screen sector through awards, media exposure and special events that raise the profile of women and gender-diverse filmmakers.
Promote
Showcasing films by women and gender-diverse filmmakers to audiences, distributors and industry decision-makers.

Supporting career development through partnerships and mentoring opportunities.
Nurture
Creating opportunities for networking, learning and industry connection.

By supporting women and non-binary filmmakers, the Women’s Giving Collective helps ensure a broader range of stories, perspectives and lived experiences reach audiences, enriching Australia’s screen culture.
Patron contribution: $3,000 annually
